W Magazine has four A list actresses, Keira Knightley, Scarlett Johansson, Mia Wasikowska, and Rooney Mara, dressed in the style of the past four decades for the cover of its 40th anniversary issue.
The star of the 2000s was Keira who was turned into a blonde, with her bright hair scraped back showing off her red, red lips and big eyebrows. Scarlett Johansson was a 90s grunge chick, with black and grey hair, deep red lips, lots of rings and a tattooed bracelet. Mia Wasikowska powers up the 80s with a bright orange short fringe, explosive coloured eye shadow and bright hoop earrings. Rooney Mara is a 60s model with a short, blunt fringe, Prada graphic print top and a wide-brimmed plum hat
The stars were all shot by Steven Klein and each wore a different designer. It's Chanel for Keira, Dolce for Scarlett, Prada for Rooney and Balenciaga for Mia. Instead of simply praising their decades, they each said things they hated about fashions of the time.
Scarlett Johansson called turtlenecks "unfortunate" and Wasikowska hates scrunchies (who doesn't?). Rooney Mara said she hates sseventies menswear: "I find the way men dressed then to be kind of repulsive — especially disco style." Keira Knightley admitted that she hates skinny jeans and mini skirts.
