Downtown Abbey’s Michelle ‘Lady Mary’ Dockery Plays The ‘60s Sex Kitten In Interview Mag Shoot

The fashion world can’t get enough of Michelle Dockery. As Lady Mary Crawley in ITV mega-smash Downtown Abbey, she’s inspired the catwalks to get on down with the Downtown look for this autumn/winter season – most significantly by ultimate trend setter and D-town super-fan Marc Jacobs for both his eponymous label and Louis Vuitton. But did you know the trend goes even further? All the way through to stores like John Lewis reporting to us a surge in sales of such Edwardian favourites as elbow-length gloves and decorative hats. Heck! We’ve even got to grips with a dropped waistline again.

Everyone from Erdem to Stella McCartney is vying to dress her. Industry stalwarts like Katie Grand have snapped her up for fashion shoots - remember her rather raunchy corseted cover-shoot with co-star Laura Carmichael for LOVE magazine? In fact, it proved to be so good, that the power combo of Grand-Dockery strikes again, this time for Interview magazine.

So, who is Michelle ‘character chameleon’ Dockery channelling for this series of Boo George-lensed fash snaps? Simply fast forward 50 years from Downtown, ditch the demure hemlines and you’ll find a 1960s beatnik girl, complete with thick eyeliner, a baker boy cap, white tights and simple, mini and modish clothes. Not forgetting that all important return of the low heel that we're all going crazy for - le petite pump – and an insouciant cigarette in hand. She’s even sporting a bouffant ‘do so voluminous and glossy it could definitely challenge Lana Del Rey’s. But do you prefer Michelle in this retro decade or the cosy comfort of her 1910s wardrobe?
