Knitwear student-turned-blogger Kristabel started her blog back in 2008 as a place to share her latest shopping addictions, creative endeavours and personal style snaps. We love her vintage-inspired look and the beautiful photography on her site - so much so we asked her to be one of our local ambassadors for Grazia's Street Fashion Week. Kristabel roamed the streets of London for us last week on the hunt for stylish residents - vote for the UK capital or your favourite city here and check out our Q&A with the blogger herself...
Grazia Daily: How long have you been blogging?
Kristabel: Time has flown by and I’m almost at my four-year anniversary. I started I Want You To Know in December 2008.
Grazia Daily: What made you decide to start your blog?
Kristabel: For a long time most of my blog reading consisted of Perez Hilton and The Cut, but after reading a Teen Vogue article, I stumbled across some personal style blogs and became hooked on how I could relate to them. As I was in my second year of University studying knitwear design, I felt I had something to contribute and kick-started my posting once I’d been to the legendary Angels Sale in Wembley. I blogged about my purchases and received comments asking for me to post pictures of how they looked and the rest as they say is history! It’s developed into a way for me to cement my style and creatively share it with others.
Grazia Daily: Which subjects do you particularly love blogging about?
Kristabel: I love to document days out, whether it’s exploring a new city, visiting an exhibition or finding a new place to eat. These sorts of posts tend to include what I’m wearing at the time and a few musings on what I was thinking. It pushes me to do more with what free time I have and gives my readers an idea of what the life of a twenty-something London girl is like.
Grazia Daily: What’s been your highlight so far?
Kristabel: A recent highlight has been a trip to Wales with Cath Kidston, exploring Festival Number 6 at Portmeirion village and staying in a cottage with some fellow bloggers. Blogging has given me the opportunity to experience things I wouldn’t otherwise get to do plus I’ve made so many likeminded friends who are similarly as internet obsessed and easy to get hold of!
Grazia Daily: Are there any particular perks of blogging?
Kristabel: Sometimes I have to pinch myself as I feel very fortunate to attend exciting events and press launches every so often. I try to make the most of being in such a unique situation and gaining an insight into some of my favourite brands. I’ve also discovered plenty of new brands along the way, which hasn’t helped my bank balance! It’s also great to get positive comments when someone really likes something you’ve written.
Grazia Daily: Do you attend London Fashion Week?
Kristabel: I’ve been attending London Fashion Week for the past seven seasons and it’s always exciting to have the complete fashion show experience, and to see the circumstances led to that photo being taken and put on Style.com. In the past I’ve managed to see Mulberry, Holly Fulton, PPQ, Issa and Fashion Fringe.
Grazia Daily: What are your favourite brands?
Kristabel: There’s too many to mention! My tastes are pretty diverse and I love the typical high-street fare such as Topshop, H&M, Asos, Monki, COS, Urban Outfitters and Weekday if it ever comes to the UK. I also appreciate and sale-stalk the more focused boutique brands such as Tba, Orla Kiely, Sandro and A.P.C. My favourite designer brands would have to be Mulberry, Kenzo, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Carven and Acne.
Grazia Daily: Blog brag time: why should people read your blog?
Kristabel: If you like an eclectic mix of personal style, inspiration, rambling and the odd bit of knitwear, then I Want You To Know is probably a good place to start.
Grazia Daily: What advice do you have for anyone starting a blog?
Kristabel: I think that it’s best to get across a unique point of view and stamp your personality everywhere, whether it’s by featuring a certain style or including any quirks that you might have into your writing. It may seem like a pre-requisite to have a DSLR and fancy laptop, but I find that compelling content and tone of voice shines through whatever equipment you might use. You definitely have to be committed and to motivate yourself as it’s a little bit like running your own magazine, except that you’re usually the editor, photographer, model, writer and publicist.
Grazia Daily: Which other fashion blogs do you love?
Kristabel: My Google Reader and Bloglovin accounts are always full of new posts and a few go-to faves include Style Bubble, Park & Cube, Blushing Ambition, Calivintage, Natalie Off Duty, Color Me Nana and Anywho. I also keep up with what my blogger friends are doing and frequent Wish Wish Wish, Shiny Thoughts, What Olivia Did, Diamond Canopy, Jazzabelle’s Diary and Thrills & Frills in between meet-ups.
