Earlier today, Grazia Daily was gasping at the sight of Lady Gaga morphing into Donatella Versace. The ice-blonde hair! The mega sunnies! The form-fitting dress! Leaning over the Palazzo balcony in Milan, it was the perfect photo opportunity. Just 24 hours later and photos have landed of her Ladyship channelling yet another style icon: Elizabeth Hurley. Oh yes, the safety pin dress is BACK!
This isn't any old LBD, of course. This black gown is forever etched on our memory - and eternally found on our Google - it even has its own Wiki page! And that's pretty impressive considering it was way back in 1994 that Lady Hurley first debuted the Versace dress at the premiere of Four Weddings and a Funeral on the arm of one floppy-haired Hugh Grant. Her ensemble caused a right hoo-ha because it was held together with little more than a few strategically placed safety pins and showed off Liz's *ahem* ample assets.
So it goes without saying that Gagaloo has picked a mighty iconic moment to emulate this evening - and it inevitably cries out for a round of Who Wore It Best (you know you wanna). But why this dress? Did Gaga cast off that divine red gown from Gianni Versace's Bondage collection, stomp her foot and demand Donatella drag possibly THE most famous Versace dress out of the archives to really get the flashbulbs flashing? With such unprecedented access, you can hardly blame her. And hats off for going the whole '90s hog with a brunette bouffant, blinging gold earrings and dramatic shades. Err - hang on a minute - is that Terry Richardson scampering behind her?
So what'll be next, Gaga? Please, pleeease let it be J-Lo's Grammys gown.
