Isabel Marant Reveals The Inspiration Behind Her Wedge Trainers Adored By Miranda Kerr, Beyoncé And Kate Bosworth

Like Mel Gibson in a cheesy Hollywood Rom-Com, French designer Isabel Marant has a knack for giving women exactly what they want. From edgy cowgirl boots to statement jumpers, season after season her collections are packed with 'It' items that make fashionistas around the globe go week at the knees. But no piece has caused as much of a style scrum as her suede wedge trainers. The ultimate off-duty accessory is available (or rather unavailable) in various colour ways and with both Velcro fasteners and laces and the ultra-chic shoe has been snapped up by the likes of Kate Bosworth, Miranda Kerr, Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian, plus every fashion blogger worth their Mulberry Alexa. As a result the sneakers are pretty much sold out everywhere, with the originals going for over a thousand dollars on eBay.

In a rare interview the woman at the centre of the shoe storm told Fashionista: 'I knew when I did them that they would be a hit, but to this point, no.' So how did she come up with the idea? 'It’s something I did since I was a teenager. I would cut up cork and put pieces of cork into my sneakers because I wanted to look taller. To have a little heel in it makes a difference, it gives your legs–I mean, I know women, I am a woman, so I know what we are searching for!'

We'd never turn our noses up at shoes that makes us feel taller, especially when they're so wearable. It's no surprise that Marant's sneakers are a massive hit with the yummy mummies (Miranda and Beyoncé included) who clearly love the fact that they can run around with the kids while wearing virtually secret heels. Marant explains, 'I think most of the time when you dress in the morning, you go towards something that’s very pretty but at the end you say, ‘Ah, no, I’m having a hard day, I need to have something easy that I’m not afraid to break.’ It’s a balance of fashion and a way of life.' You see, 'It' trainers aren't frivolous. They ensure complete style equilibrium!
