Trend On Trial: How To Wear 90s Fashion Now As Seen At Topshop Unique, Louise Gray And Henry Holland

27 September 2012 by

The 90s gave us a lot of great TV shows that inspire feelings of nostalgia - The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Sister Sister, 90210 - but we've not always been as enthusiastic about the fashion. Autumn/ Winter 2012 changed that. The collections were chock-a-block with references to the decade of grunge from double denim to Hip-Hop-inspired street wear. And it doesn't end in 2012 as designer Henry Holland advocated a return to dip-dye dungarees, printed jersey maxis and super short shorts in his Spring/ Summer 2013 collection Buzz Kill, which also featured an amazing 90s soundtrack mix. To give you some pointers on how to pull off the trend without looking like an extra from Saved By The Bell Grazia's Shopping Editor Sophie Ferguson Jones has selected the four pieces you need to wear now for total 90s chic. Watch the video below...

Sophie's top tips for wearing 90s now:

1. Dungarees: As seen at Topshop Unique, Louise Gray, Acne (Autumn/ Winter 2012) and Henry Holland (Spring/ Summer 2013). We predict this retro style will make a huge comeback during party season – wear a vintage denim pair with a sheer shirt and platforms like Alexa Chung to keep the look ultra-feminine.

2. Army Jacket: Wear with cut-offs and boots a la Miley Cyrus (currently modelling herself on Agyness Deyn) or throw on over a party dress to balance out the glamour.

3. Double Denim: As seen on Pixie Geldof and fashion editors at London Fashion Week. Wear two different shades of denim to ensure the look is not too matchy-matchy.

4. Rucksacks: It's time to dig out your Jansport or your Eastpak. Alternatively Topshop has a lovely selection of practical backpacks from leather to embroidered.
