Geneva in her DIY wrap skirt for Grazia magazine and then at New York Fashion Week!
For this week’s issue of Grazia magazine the fashion team commissioned four fantastic bloggers who specialise in DIYing their own wardrobes to work out thrifty ways to get into autumn/winter’12. It’s a new show-and-tell craze in the blogosphere and one of the leading Make Your Own Mavens (or MYOMs for short) is the super-gorgeous Hong-Kong based blogger Geneva Vanderzeil of A Pair And A Spare. Geneva’s inspirationally chic but sustainable ideas range from jewellery to home furnishings, but we tapped her talents to create, from scratch, the wrap skirt. It’s the silhouette hitting fashion week square in the face and originally dreamt up for the new season by Prada and Proenza Schouler. Her result? Well, just look – it’s fantastic!
So imagine our delight when Geneva chose to wear her Grazia skirt to that very public street style marathon, also known as New York Fashion Week! She told us that street snappers had been keen to get her picture, “I was indeed stopped for lots of pics in New York - everyone seemed to love the DIY skirt, mainly because it was chic and interesting and they hadn't seen anything like it before.” Too right! “This is the reason I love DIY so much, you can look unique and on-trend without blowing the budget.” Well ladies, if that isn’t a good enough reason to get crafty, we don’t know what is! And there’s still time to see the rest of the feature, with other creations like Phillip Lim-inspired go-faster stripe trousers and embellishment worth of a Dolce nod.
