When a very glamorous gaggle of Diane Von Furstenberg models stepped out at her New York Fashion Week show wearing the sort of goggley glasses we are more used to seeing on Lady Gaga, not the classic city chic of lovely DvF’s collections, confusion reigned.
But then, the mystery was cleared up when Ms Von Furstenberg herself put out the following short film; ‘DVF through Glass,’ – the results of wearing those space age glasses all day – an amazing fly on the wall view, from the tiny camera that is mounted on the futuristic glasses. And an intriguing insider glimpse into the world of the designer, on one of the biggest days of the year – show day!
It’s all thanks to Glass from Google – in their words; ‘a bold, beautiful and wearable new technology that lets you interact with the digital world without distracting you from the real world. It also allows you to effortlessly share your perspective.’ Yep – basically film-shooting glasses from the future.
It’s thought that Google has not yet finished developing the glasses so we don’t know exactly how the project will eventually evolve. All credit to Diane Von Furstenberg for being the first designer to get their paws on the technology – it’s something that a brand like Alexander McQueen or Burberry would be expected to do first. DvF is basically a legend in the fashion world, having sold five million wrap dresses in the Seventies, kept her brand not only alive but growing and evolving for the next four decades as well as being president of the CDFA and doing mountains of charity work – even pledging to give half her fortune away.
Now she has strapped a teeny camera that looks like glasses to her head to film herself putting a coin in her shoe with sellotape for good luck – and stepping through the New York puddles to get to her show. How can you not love a woman like that?
