Did you know Cara Delevingne is in movie-of-the-moment Anna Karenina? Nope, us neither. So what a lovely surprise to see Cara hitting the red carpet at the world premiere in London's Leicester Square last night. In fact, the blonde beauty is looking to make that tricky transition from catwalk to silver screen and judging by her acting debut alongside Keira Knightley, she'll do just fine. We grabbed her for a chat about getting steamy with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, how she felt to be nominated for no less than two BFA Awards and, of course, that Harry Styles abuse...
Congratulations on your British Fashion Awards nominations.
Oh yes, I heard about this! I only found out, like, ummm… Sorry, I can't even speak right now, I'm so nervous.
All this must be pretty daunting! But that really is incredible to be up for two BFAs.
I honestly only thought I'd been nominated for Model of the Year then I found out today I've been nominated for the award voted for by the public too and I was like, 'what?!' I'm up against people like Victoria and David Beckham?! It's awesome.
It is! How did you feel when you found out?
I was pretty surprised because it's something to do with being a British style icon and considering I'm 20 years old, it's unbelievable. What an amazing thing to be called. It's so cool.
How do you decide what to wear to such a huge event?
Luckily I have help otherwise I'd be so screwed - I'd be sitting in my room like, 'I don't know what to do!' But I have very good help with all that and thank God I have good choices. So hopefully I'll wear some Burberry or maybe some Chanel…
Speaking of which, what are you wearing tonight?
The dress is by Burberry.
Of course. We recently wrote a piece about those nasty comments you got on Twitter...
Thank you very much for doing that, it was really nice to read that.
How do you deal with those negative comments?
One thing I've learned from this job is to take everything on the chin. People can say what they want - they will always have their own opinions so whether they're saying good or bad things, you have to remember what you're there to do and forget about what other people are thinking.
You got a lot of respect for standing up for yourself and replying to the comments...
I didn't mean to reply to them in a mean way though! I was picking out the nice things that they said and that I thought were funny. You should've read the horrible things they were saying! So I only responded to the comments that I find amusing about myself.
So let's talk about Anna Karenina. We're so excited to see you in the film.
It was such a dream come true to be part of a Joe Wright film. I was so excited I couldn’t sleep for the first few nights!
Which do you prefer: acting or modelling?
Acting has always been my dream, even more than modelling. I tried to channel my experience of modelling but it’s actually really different. When I was being filmed I found myself posing but it’s not about that. I just had to really concentrate on the part and the character.
What was it like working with such an A-list cast for your first film?
We all completely gelled. After three days, when you put a load of actors in one room, they just have to create. Keira was so helpful, she was really supportive.
What advice did Keira give you?
I was actually really nervous about the sex scenes, the intimate ones. But Keira had her own in this film and had done it all before. She just told me to lose myself in it. Forget about me and be the character. I really took that on board.
Keira has become director Joe Wright's muse. Would you like to be in his next project?
I would love to, I love his films. I’ll have to audition for it though! Acting is my dream…or music! I play guitar and the drums.
If you were to release an album, what kind of music could we expect?
I really love all genres. Rock to opera - I even rap!
THAT we would love to see! Finally, what are you most excited about for London Fashion Week?
I'm not excited yet but once I get into it, I'm sure it'll be amazing. The Burberry show is something which I look forward to every season, but apart from that, I'm looking forward to getting it over and done with! It's going to be exhausting.
That it is. And we'll see you there!
