We’ve heard the rumours, had the teasers and seen the rehearsal pictures but at last we have photographic evidence of the Spice Girls performing as part of the Olympics Closing Ceremony! Wasn't it just fabulous?
The fabulous five took part in a symphony of British music that began with a white-T-shirt-wearing choir singing John Lennon’s Imagine. Oasis, Tinie Tempah and Jessie J also took part in the one-off musical bonanza that saw Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Mel B, Emma Bunton and Mel C peforming their legendary hits Wannabe and Spice Up Your Life. Oh, how we miss the '90s...
Decked out in outfits befitting their Spice personas, the fivesome performed on top of rhinestone-encrusted London cabs. Yes! Ginger wore red (no Union Jack dress sadly), Sporty wore white, Baby wore pink and Scary wore a glitzy gold jumpsuit but our eyes were on popstar-turned-designer Posh Spice who looked characteristically high fashion in a glorious strapless gown created by our very own Giles Deacon. The frock featured layers of fringed-edged black fabric with a mullet-esque hemline that was thigh-grazing at the front and floor-length at the back to showcase those slender pins.
Lady Becks tweeted earlier this afternoon 'So excited!! X vb' along with a snap of her silhouette wearing super-sexy knee-high boots and this evening, Grazia Daily has been treated an exclusive first look at Giles' sketch of the design:
Welcome back, Spice Girls! The performance followed a homage to British fashion featuring the finest home-grown runway-ers - we're talking Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell in Alexander McQueen, Karen Elson in Burberry, Jourdan Dunn in Jonathan Saunders and Stephen Jones, Stella Tennant in Christopher Kane, Lily Donaldson in Vivienne Westwood, Georgia May Jagger in Victoria Beckham and David Gandy in Paul Smith (PHEWF!) who all took to the Union Jack-shaped catwalk stage to a soundtrack of David Bowie's Fashion.
The likes of Boris Johnson and Prince Harry danced along to the spectacular while Kate Middleton looked typically demure in the very same printed Whistes frock that she wore to the Jubilee concert in July. Well, if there's one thing we can count on it's the DoC's thriftiness. Hurrah for GB!
