She's being texting Anna Wintour and even threatened to send bribery bagels, but at last Lady Gaga's demands have been answered: she's got her paws on that US Vogue cover. The singer's legion of Little Monsters were treated to the first glimpse of Gaga gracing the magazine's September issue after she leaked a preview on Twitter last night, along with the caption: 'Sorry Anna but the underground kids deserve it.' Cackle.
Shot by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott, the pop diva looks magnificent as Vogue's cover girl for a second time running. The styling is the handy work of Grace Coddington who swathed Gaga in a Quality Street wrapper electric purple gown by Marc Jacobs which nips in and out at all the right places. And would you check out that mega hair! The gravity-defying afro is like a halo of platinum flames - or should that be a fluffy muppet? 'I’m totally channeling fozzibear,' the songstress wrote on her fan site, littlemonsters.com. Course she is.
Meanwhile, LG's makeup is tres sophisticated and her pose is elegant but dramatic rather than utterly bonkers and claw-like. It's certainly a contrast to the Gaga we saw on her first US Vogue cover last year when she sported bleached eyebrows, vampy blood red lipstick and an androgynous pink wig. 'Think you know Lady Gaga?' the coverline asks, 'Think again.'
And there's more. In a sneak peek at the full shoot, Gaga is seen entirely starkers expect for a ginormous hot pink fur hat covered in frothy feathers, which was created by our very own Stephen Jones for Marc Jacobs. She looks - dare we say it - serene and gorgeously understated without those layers of extensions, flashy makeup and creepy face prothestics. And we like it.
Might Mother Monster be heading in a(nother) new style direction after rumours emerged that a Gaga wedding might be on the cards? Earlier this week, the 26-year-old tweeted a shot of herself naked and in the arms of hot lover Taylor Kinney before a photo surfaced of her looking very un-Gaga-ian in a Vera Wang wedding gown. Dun Dun DUN. We'll be keeping a close eye on that Twitter feed…
