Who’s the hippest girl in town? Solange Knowles is the hippest girl in town! The DJ/singer/model/style maven has usurped Alexa Chung as the new face of wholesome American brand Madewell and so her under-the-radar brilliance has finally hit the main stream. Dammit, we'd like having a secret girl crush. We’ve long been fans of Beyonce’s little (and hush it,*cooler*) sister Solange, so much so that she was one of only ten A-listers who found themselves on this year’s best dressed list for Grazia magazine. A major accolade, we know.
Over the past year Solange has triumped as a fearless fashionista, tackling new trends square on. She’s cemented Grazia yellow as her colour (literally, no one else can work this sunshine hue so well), become the yummiest mummy we know (her son Daniel Julez Smith, Jr is BEYOND cute) and has just moved to Brooklyn upon Beyonce’s advice, where we all know the hipsters hang. So it’s no wonder Madewell have tapped the supercool depths of Solange’s eclectic tastes and used the tag line ‘Mix Well. Madewell’. Because as you can see from the behind the scenes video, she knows just how to twist those basics – like ripped jeans and a blazer – into something more interesting.
But Madewell aren’t the first clever fellows to get Solange on board; while this is her first ever fashion brand campaign (which, we actually find quite suprising!), she has been a brand ambassador for Armani and a Rimmel girl. All very good practice for those billboards, videos and print ads to come!
