Victoria Beckham wearing (not-so-chic) glasses in her Posh Spice days
It's a great time to be Victoria Beckham. Not only has the popstar-designer-supermum been shooting with Karl Lagerfeld, who praised her 'incredible look' and 'handsome' son, she's reportedly performing with the Spice Girls at the Olympics Closing Ceremony while possibly wearing Giles AND sporting a bedazzled microphone. But as if THAT wasn't exciting enough, Lady V is adding to her already impressive CV with a new range of optical frames.
We're obviously delighted with the news but quite honestly, spectacles aren't the first accessory that spring to mind when we think of Victoris Beckham. However, as WWD reports, when you're building a fashion empire, an optical collection is the obvious next step, right? What's more, the designer herself is short-sighted (who knew?) so it makes perfect sense.
The poor poppet explains that she has been unable to find a suitably chic pair of frames, hence why we've never seen her sporting glasses that aren't oversize sunnies. 'I do need to wear glasses — [but] I haven’t found glasses that suit me or that I particularly like,' Victoria reveals. So what's a designer to do? Make her own range, of course! 'I’ve always been quite self-conscious [about this], so that’s why I’ve decided to do them myself.'
You'll remember Victoria launched a line of faboosh sunglasses in 2009 so this six-piece optical collection is bound to be just as classic, feminine and stylish. The world won't get our mitts (or should that be faces?) on the designs until they hit retailers in January BUT we have been treated to this sneak preview of the Kitten design [above]. Nice, no?
We also know that there'll be superlight metal aviators as well as heavier rectangular shapes while the overall palette for the range is black, tortoise, topaz, yellow and forest green. Plus: each style comes in THREE colourways, there will be pearl oyster interior lining, no less, and a diamond 'V' features on the tip of each frame. Naturally.
And for those of you itching to dress-up your man Beckham style, Victoria is releasing unisex styles too — the Heavy Square is a bolder frame that Mr and Mrs Becks both wear. Ooh, we do love a bit of matchy-matchy chic. Prices range between £295 and £340 so start saving those pennies and breathe a sigh of relief that AT LAST Vic's vision won't be hazy.
'I will be wearing my glasses now, and it will be nice to see where I will be going for once,' she says. Ha! Didn't we tell you this is one funny lady?
UPDATE: A press release has just arrived confirming that 'each piece is hand cut, assembled, and polished, with the same aspirational, chic and refined aesthetic that is at the heart of Victoria’s creative vision.' Ooh. What's more, avid VB fans have pointed out that the yummy mummy sported foxy glasses in the latest issue of US Glamour. Was this a pre-medidated move to showcase her specs appeal we wonder?
