As Mr Kate Moss, the ever-cool and collected Jamie Hince must occasionally feel the fashion pressure of being the other half to the world’s most trend-setting supermodel, right? We’d probably collapse in an unfashionable lump on the floor just being on the same street as La Moss! But do you ever hear a peep from the musician? No. In fact, we don’t think we’ve known Jamie to chat about anything, and certainly not the fashion biz his lady so majestically reigns.
So kudos to Esquire magazine for squeezing some choice quotes out of the cool-as-a-cucumber rocker for their latest issue. ‘I just know what I like,’ he told them of his personal style. ‘I love that real old English thing, like Richard E Grant in Withnail and I. What a brilliant look – a high-waisted girl’s coat with pleats!’ Erm… Considering just how suavely Jamie pulled off a dove grey Yves Saint Laurent double-breasted suit for his mega Cotswold wedding to Kate, we will trust him this time. Plus, he counts the rather dashing late artist and dear friend of Kate’s, Lucien Freud as style influence, 'He always looked immaculate,’ Jamie said. ‘We went to see him when he was ill in bed, and even then, at the age of 80-odd, and in just his pyjamas, he still looked completely incredible.’
Accompanying the shoot above which features him modelling his standard skinny jeans, neck scarf and scuffed up shoes, Jamie speaks about his adversity to wearing trainers and his catwalk FROW fear. ‘If I’m sitting on my own it taps into my uptight male side, where it’s like, “What am I doing here? It’s f***ing stupid,” he explains, ‘…unless I’m with my wife.’ Well, of course!
