From Kim Kardashian To The Best Bikinis: Five Things We Loved At Miami Swim Week!

>> GALLERY >> Scroll through for Miami's top five moments!

The first sweltering day of Miami Swim Week (32 degrees celsius, people, try packing for that during last week's abominable weather!) and a bus stop poster appeared mirage-like stating thus; all swimwear starts in Miami. From a historical point of view this is probably untrue, but in modern day Miami where a bikini is acceptable day attire (wedge heels and jewellery make it a complete outfit) and the most radical swim trends are tried and tested on the ultimate perfect posing-confident bodies, it sounds about right to me. This is a place where girls spend their cashiola on the little things, so to speak. We love a knit, they love a Brazilian tanga.

But all is a-changing in this niche market; in fact, swim is becoming big business and Miami Swim Week is ever growing and attracting larger audiences - both on the alist from front but from international buyers too. No longer is your holiday essential a cheap afterthought, more and more women are discovering that a seriously great swimsuit or two piece can make you feel slimmer than months of hard slog at the gym.Tory Burch took the opportunity to launch a dedicated swim line for resort 2013, while key LFW designers like Roksanda llincic are going stateside for this five day event to bring greater exposure to their swimwear ventures too, "Miami Swim Week is vital for gaining exposure amongst some of the most exciting swimwear stores and labels." She told us, "It’s a great opportunity to meet press and key people in person. There’s also a great atmosphere - the location couldn’t be better for swim"  So, what did we discover on our swim week travels? Scroll through the gallery above for the top five highlights of MSW.

1. Kim Kardashian. The bootilicious babe kicked of MSW with a bang, pairing up with Midori (cue green everything - emerald carpet to Wicked Witch coloured cocktails) for a fashion week bash at the Delano Hotel's pool bar. All fash eds lost any sense of dignity trying to get a snap with the Versace-klad Kar-fash queen, myself included. Dutiful Boyf Kanye came along for the ride.

2. [a target="_blank" href="">The Delano Hotel[/a]. It's where many of MSW's top events and parties were held, but it's also a trend setting bikini hotspot in it's own right. The pose-friendly pool allows for optimum swimwear showing off, so it's no wonder this is the place for the rich, the beautiful, the hip and the famous to cool down and strip off. Top trend? Neon and aztec mix and match bikinis. And BTW, the cut here is higher, smaller and sassier here.

3. The OTT swim looks. Watching lots of swimwear catwalk calls for major accessorising and superpower kaftans to keep the crowds eager for more. But some pieces were so unbelievably glamorous, we were expecting J Lo to pitch up on the runway at any moment. Here are three of the more fash forward MSW offerings. Warning: Not for skegness. L-R: Keva J, Gottex, Red Carter.

5. Discovering Jessica Gomes. She's basically the new Kate Upton - as in the next Sports Illustrated girl to go global. Jessica graced the cover of Miami's Ocean Drive magazine and hosted another party at the Delano to celebrate. When I caught up with her thr next day, the Aussie beauty told us she adores London and was thrilled to hear a Brit accent. Your welcome!

As half Singapore-Chinese half Portuguese, she's really blazing the trail for oriental models bagging high profile gigs right now, and follows in the elite footsteps of China Machacdo, a fellow Singaporean-Portuguese supermodel and muse of legendary photographer Richard avedon.
