As Rachel Zoe Steps Out In Dodgy Flares, We Ask: Has Her Style Gone AWOL?

23 July 2012 by

Rachel Zoe is one of the most influential stylists of all times regularly picking out red carpet dresses for A-listers including Cameron Diaz, Anne Hathaway and Kate Beckinsale. We have all j’adored her reality show catchphrases (“I die”), swooned over her fashion collections (red velvet suits, strong outerwear and tailoring) and kept abreast of her infamous twitter spats between former clients – hello Nicole Richie – and her assistant Brad Goreski. Hell the woman even had us thinking insanely massive sunglasses, bags and watches were the only option for a full 5 years during the days of the Zo-bots (her band of identkit clients from Lindsay Lohan to Mischa Barton, circa 2006).

So were are feeling maja-ly disloyal to be even thinking this, but could the Queen of the red carpet possibly losing her sense of style? As we looked at her latest *extraordinary* outfit we couldn’t help feeling that perhaps Rachel may be in need of a fashion MOT.

While not totally unlike her normal style – she loves her flares, long layers, invisible shoes for their ‘elongating’  qualities – this mishmash of leather waistcoat, dodgy bellbottoms and thigh length t-shirt is definitely not going to be storming the best dressed charts.

Sadly some of her other recent looks have been similarly under par – the heavy fringe dress she wore to the MET Ball offered a bizarre insight into her armpits while her penchant for playsuits and wedges is frankly disturbing.

But perhaps Zoe is going to have the last laugh. Her signature thigh length tops and flares are very A/W 2012, and Victoria Beckham and Katie Holmes are but two of the Stateside residents who are currently digging the 70s flare – so for now we’ll let her off with a quiet fashion police caution. Who hasn’t had a dodgy style day or two!?
