Ashish For Topshop: Cheeky Sportswear Just In Time For The London Olympics!

20 July 2012 by

How handy! With less than a week before the 2012 London Olympics fun begins, Topshop are on track with a sports-tastic capsule collection designed by Ashish Gupta. It's the designer's EIGHTH! collection with the high street hero and is even better than ever.

The 9 piece range takes on an international sports theme, but gives it a twist in typical Ashish style. From a grey jersey sweat set embellished with world flags to a maroon marl T-shirt, they're adorned with tongue in cheek phrases including ‘2nd place’, ‘Don’t play games’ and ‘I Love Sports’. But our fave is the baseball jacket that pokes fun at the stereotypical American jock thanks to the simple slogan ‘Loser’. HA!

Affectionately known by fashionistas as the ‘King of Sequins’, Topshop and Ashish Gupta first crossed paths in 2004 when he won New Generation sponsorship. His exuberant collections mix sportswear and high octane glamour, often using bright colours, glitz and prints - which we love.

'I was rubbish at sports in school, and I was always the last one chosen for the football team!' Ashish says of the upcoming Olympics. 'So I can relate to being the 'loser'! I want to celebrate the underdog, the runner up, the ones that don’t get the medals.' What a good sport.

Ashish's latest collection will go on sale from 20th July 2012 at Topshop.com
