The Duchess of Cambridge has just arrived at The National Portrait Gallery to open an exhibition of 2012 athletes and - GASP - she's got a new frock on! In her favourite colour! This vibrant blue number comes courtesy of Stella McCartney and Kate has teamed it with a statement silver necklace by Cartier and a pair of classic black kitten heels. Yes, folks, the nude LK Bennetts are OFF.
Kate's Stella McCartney dress; the Team GB kit
The crepe dress, from the Brit designer's pre-fall collection, is available at Selfridges.com (go, copy-Kates, go!). It costs a reasonable £515 and is described on the website as a simple shift that 'embodies easy luxury with it's minimalist silhouette and eye-catching bold hue.' It certainly is a treat to see the Duchess going so bright and giving the world a flash of those slender pins, hey?
We wouldn't be surprised if today's outfit choice is a subtle tribute to the 2012 Olympics, which is due to kick off in just ten days. Stella McCartney has designed Britain's Olympic kit, after all, and that azure hue is totes Team GB. As for that necklace, doesn't it remind you of a certain logo..?
Kate is, of course, the Team GB ambassador and today's Olympic-themed gallery visit is the first of many royal duties which will see her joining Prince William and Prince Harry as they visit training camps over the coming month. The trio will also be cheering on their cousin Zara Phillips in the equestrian events, for which we can expect to see Kate dressing by numbers yet again. Did anyone say riding boots?
So what else are you looking forward to from Kate's Olympics wardrobe? A touch of Karl Lagerfeld's sportswear perhaps? Might she try a little Stella McCartney for Adidas? Or will she pop to Beyond Retro for a vintage varsity jacket? One thing's for sure: we'll be watching.
