As The Queen Wears Her Burberry Cape Again, We Can Officially Declare: Arms Are OVER.
GALLERY >> The greatest caped crusaders
As Grazia Daily reported last week, capes are taking over fashiondom. And with the Queen wearing a tan trench version at Windsor Castle yesterday, we can officially declare: arms are over. Want more proof? Take a look through the gallery above to see our favourite caped crusaders from Victoria Beckham and Lana Del Rey to floaty couture creations and superhero-tastic swooshes…
1. Valentino couture
Capes took couture week by storm, swooping onto the Alexis Mabille, Giambattista Valli and Stephane Rolland catwalks. Our favourite has to be Valentino's silk gown and matching cashmere cape hand painted with chintz motifs. OOH, AHH etc. We have every faith this new twist on after-dark attire will be coming to a red carpet any day now...
2. Victoria Beckham
As well as the cape-slash-dress (cress?) we saw at couture, capes are morphing into trench coats. Oh yes. And when you have a high-profile style icon like VB championing the chic outerwear, you know it's here to stay. Adding another hit to her already chic-tastic airport wardrobe, Lady Becks wore this cape-trench hybrid by Comme des Garcons en route from Los Angeles to London last month, teamed with oversized sunglasses and black ankle booties. And a zillion copy-cats were born.
3. The Queen
…and look who took note: only the Queen of England! Our lovely Liz sported a royal-worthy number by Burberry (who hold a Royal Warrant, dontcha know) for the Olympic Torch Relay at Windsor Castle yesterday - but this wasn't the first time. Her Majesty also worked a cape-trench for a rain sodden trip to Scotland a few weeks ago, brightened up by a colourful brolly and matchy-matchy hat. Quite frankly, what more do you need than a royal seal of approval? Err, nothing.
Capes have long been a wardrobe staple in the world of blockbuster films and with the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises, being released this month, we'll all be wanting a piece of those superpowers, trust. Kapow! Or something.
5. The A-list
We've said it before and we'll say it again: capes are guaranteed to make as dramatic an entrance as an exit. Just refer to Gwyneth Paltrow stealing the Oscars limelight in an elegant Tom Ford number, Lana Del Rey throwing a black floor-sweeper over her Altuzarra dress at the Met Ball and Diane Kruger going all regal on us thanks to Jason Wu. Ladies, we salute you.
6. Florence Welch
And finally, we have our favourite flame-haired singer billowing away on stage at Alexandra Palace earlier this year. What a hero! But who's your favourite caped crussador, Graziettes? And will you be getting involved? Leave your verdict in the box below...
