Yesterday was the first time Katie Holmes had been seen in public since filing for divorce against Tom Cruise last week. In the lead up to this life-changing decision she was spotted out and about in New York in a variety of different outfits to (apparently) prove she was a resident of NYC. Now, we’re no fashion psychologists, but here at Grazia Towers we do know that an outfit can say a thousand words and throughout Katie’s six year relationship with Tom her many sartorial phases must contain a code to unlocking what the bloomin’ nora was going on.
We’ve had super-smart grown-up Katie with a bob, roll-necks and lots of scary satin. We’ve had work-out Katie – a time of leggings, baggy tops and dance shoes. And do you remember denim diva Katie? Where she out-did every other A-lister’s attempt at rocking every jean shape, denim label and trend simultaneously? And the most recent string of New York looks have been upbeat, casual, bright and youthful. Hmm, what do you deduce from THAT?

Katie Holmes filiming Project Runway' in New York on Tuesday
The latest KH look – which comprises of a contrast placket dress from her Holmes and Yang line you can buy at Barney’s for $1,100 and Roger Vivier corsage heels – shows a very new side of Katie. It’s certainly flirty and, most importantly, age appropriate for a (liberated) 33 year old filming an episode of Project Runway. But what can we expect in ensembles-to-come? According to Choupette (Karl Lagerfeld’s kittie, obvs) on Twitter there’s one major change: “The best thing about Katie Holmes divorcing Tom Cruise: she can finally wear heels again! (If only it were that "easy" for me!)” We reckon there will be plenty more dresses, colour and print blocking and some killer (but not too serious) tailoring. If there was ever a time do watch this space – it’s now.
