Is it just us or are Kate Moss and Kate Middleton the most powerful fashion influencers right now? The Kate Effect has resulted in a huge soar in sales whenever she wears a label’s dress or shoes or hat and now it seems not only do we want her exact pieces, but her demure conservative dressing has rubbed off on us too!
As is fitting for a Royal, The Duchess of Cambridge continuously chooses appropriate, ladylike dresses that are never above the knee, never show too much leg (even when they do feature a slit) and never inappropriately flash a glimpse of cleavage.
Now, research has come to light that proclaims Brit women are the most conservatively dressed in Europe - yes! French fashion retailer Georgedé has done its homework and found that English women wear less revealing tops and longer length skirts (10 centimetres longer to be exact!) than our European neighbours. Well, check us out. Although we're not totally convinced that this demure covering-up isn't in fact due to our rather unfavourable, unpredictable summer weather rather than us being terribly prim and proper.
In a recent issue of Grazia, Polly Vernon spoke to our other favourite Kate, Le Moss, about her feelings on how the British dress. The supermodel told us that she reckoned, come summertime, it is best not to show too much flesh. Well, her actual words were: "It's not our natural thing, no. Put it awaaaaaay." Cor, say it like it is, Mossy!
So whether you're going for a ladylike knee-length or a thigh-skimming mini, we've got a whole host of summer shopping picks that'll see you through.
