We never thought Lady Gaga would take style-spiration from Emma Watson but then can you ever predict Gagaloo's next move? Exactly. According to WWD, the bonkers songstress was the mystery bidder who bought that glorious Alexander McQueen dress from Daphne Guinness' wardrobe when it went under the hammer at Christie’s last night.
The ivory silk tulle empire line gown comes from McQueen's Autumn Winter 2008 collection called The Girl Who Lived In The Tree and a fresh-faced Emma wore it to the National Movie Awards back in September 2008. As Grazia Daily reported this morning, we knew the princessy piece had sold for a whooping £85,250 and that Gaga had helped her dear friend Daphers reach the £476,800 total, but what we didn't know was that these two were linked — or that the Haus of Gaga had so much cash to spare!
'I’m overwhelmed by how many bidders took part this evening and I’m particularly moved by Lady Gaga’s support for the Foundation,' Daphne said. 'I like her very much, and it’s lovely to see the nascent beginnings of something that may help other people.' Aw. The eccentric heiress 'watched the auction from invisible wings', which we now learn means she was at a friend’s office because, she says, 'I'm not very good at social gatherings — I’m slightly agoraphobic.'
Gaga also wasn't present at the event — the sneaky singer bid by phone from the U.S, according to industry sources, and thanks to her generosity, the dress broke records to become the highest price paid for a McQueen dress at auction EVER. Good work, Gaga. The question is: when will we see her sporting it?
