Margherita Missoni Wedding Update: She Designed The Dress Herself!

26 June 2012 by

Breaking news alert! Grazia Daily has just heard that the frothy dress Margherita Missoni wore to get married this weekend was not, in fact, the handy work of Giambattista Valli as previously reported but was designed by the bride herself! We were rather confuzzled when we first discovered that the wedding dress was not a Missoni creation, but this revelation makes perfect sense. Margherita, of course, works on the Italian brand's main line collections with mother Angela and you'll remember she designed a capsule collection, M Missoni for OrphanAid Africa, in November 2011. So although Mr Valli did consult Margherita on the couture elements, she designed the creamy, voluminous gown with her own fair hands. It was then pieced together by tailors in Sumirago and made with Missoni silk and organza.

As we reported on Monday, the fashion heiress married her beau Eugenio Amos in Italy in a traditional ceremony that was nothing short of fash-tastic. Powerhouse editors Suzy Menkes, Franc Sozzani and Stefano Tonchi made the trip from men’s fashion week to Brunello while the bridesmaids (who included Tatiana Santa Domingo and Margherita’s sister Teresa) wore floral gowns, with fresh-flower headdresses that matched the bride’s bouquet. And like a gothic princess, the bride topped off her gorgeously OTT gown with a veil and glitzy tiara that secured those Heidi-esque braids in place.

The news has also brought with it more dreamy snaps from inside the lavish Missoni wedding. Click through the gallery above to see the Moroccan-style cushions scattered on the grass, the giant heart-shaped cake covered in fresh raspberries and Margherita's mother and GRANDmother looking suitably chuffed. Sigh, what we'd give to be a Missoni...
