Inside Pre-Wimbledon Party: Mollie King’s New Obsession, Millie Mackintosh With Professor Green and Sam Branson’s Hidden Talent

22 June 2012 by

We lost count of the number of glasses that were trampled underfoot at the WTA pre-Wimbledon party at the Roof Gardens in rainy Kensington last night. On one side of the party, the sounds of Arabia played through draped Dubai Duty Free-sponsored tent and, on the other, gentle jazz beats wafted over the Mediterranean garden. In the middle, we found Mollie King.

She was wearing a dress by Keepsake with a blue blazer by River Island and the newly-single Saturday’s dates for the evening were two boys from her styling team. “I’ve got the day off tomorrow so I’m going to do some stuff to my flat. I’m obsessed with doing it up at the moment,” she told us. “I went to Kempton market and I bought these amazing old stage lights that I am using as lamps.” So is it minimal? Girly? Shabby chic? “It’s quite moody, actually. I have dark wood floors and I’ve picked some darker colours for the walls.”

Made in Chelsea’s Millie Mackintosh – in a pale mint green Tibi by Cocosa dress – was huddled under a rain-soaked awning with her boyfriend Professor Green, while her co-star Cheska Hull wafted from one end to the other end of the party in a backless and (almost)frontless blue silk maxi.

Upstairs, in the Babylon club, Holly Branson, Tamara Ecclestone (in Versace), and Tara Palmer-Tomkinson rubbed the back-hand-toned shoulders of the Serena and Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova and Anna Ivanovic. Meanwhile, Sam Branson working the room like a pro in a military-style jacket he designed himself; not a skill we were aware that he possessed. “I just like to wear what I like to wear, so I found this company that will make things the way I want.”

We like a man who knows what he wants. So when his last words to us were, “get really drunk and have loads of fun”, we felt compelled to obey. We didn’t, of course. Team Grazia Daily is nothing if not on its best behaviour on school nights. Mostly.
