The 30-year-old actress, who you’ll recognise as Bambi from ‘Secret Diary of a Call Girl’, is taking Hollywood by storm while starring in our latest TV obsession, US drama ‘Revenge’. She's BFFs with Mischa Barton and with more film and TV projects in the pipeline, like the gritty upcoming drama ‘Victim’, a street style blog that has a massive following and a wedding [to 'Secret Diary of a Call Girl' co-star Iddo Goldberg] at the end of the month, Grazia Daily caught up with Ashley just in time to talk fashion, wedding plans and being a Brit in LA…
Grazia Daily: How are the wedding plans coming along?
Ashley Madekwe: It’s going well; I don’t think I’ve had too many breakdowns. The most stressful part was planning from LA, I had to rely on people living in London to do stuff for me and I don’t like to delegate. I had a couple of friends that I assigned jobs to but I was very strict, especially about sparkle! I have a friend who is very into sparkle and I am not so I was very strict about how much sparkle he was allowed to sprinkle on my day. I’m happy with embellishment in a chunky Prada-esque way, but I’m not into sequins!
Grazia Daily: And what can we expect from your dress?
Ashley Madekwe: It’s 100% not poufy; I think my husband-to-be would cry if I walked down in something big! He’d wonder what had happened to me. My dress is ivory and it’s quite classic and vintage inspired. It’s a slinky number and I’m wearing a veil too.
Grazia Daily: Are there any brides you’re looking to for inspiration?
Ashley Madekwe: I love wedding blogs, I’ve got really into ‘Style Me Pretty’ which is an American blog and then ‘Love my dress’ an English one and ‘Rock’n’Roll brides’ another English one, I think those are all really helpful for the pictures. I also look to iconic women like, Rita Heyworth, who’s very glamorous and Kate Moss - I thought she looked very relaxed on her big day.
Grazia Daily: When did you start your style blog?
Ashley Madekwe: I love loads of style blogs, like Fashion Chalet and Cupcakes and Cashmere and I started my own two years ago. It started more as an online diary as I was performing away from home quite a bit so I thought it was a nice place to share pictures with my family and friends. I then felt really inspired by personal style blogs and Iddo, my fiancé, is a really good photographer and does most of my photos.
Grazia Daily: Who are your favourite designers?
Ashley Madekwe: I like what Proenza Schouler is doing, I also love the Miu Miu chunky embellished shoes and really like Prada as well. I currently have my eye on a union jack Alexander McQueen clutch. I think it will be a bit tacky here but when I go back to LA, everyone will love it.
Grazia Daily: What items in your wardrobe could you not live without?
Ashley Madekwe: Definitely my Balenciaga leather jacket! I also have a pair of leopard print boots with studs that I couldn’t live without and for accessories, it’s got to be my red vintage Chanel mini bag.
Grazia Daily: Your character on Revenge is from Croydon, whereabouts are you from?
Ashley Madekwe: I grew up in London. My parents and I lived in West Norwood, then we moved to Norbury and I went to the Brit School. I’m a South London girl at heart. The writers asked me for a London suburb that would still be known and I said Croydon, because I went to school there and also because Kate Moss is from there so people know of it.
Victim is out in cinemas now.
