Ok, the truth is that we’re not really sure what Kate Middleton’s bought her beau for his big birthday. But if we know the Royal couple, the celebrations for his 30th birthday tonight will be low-key – think a movie (they’re fans of films like The Avengers) and venison pie, which is supposed to be the Prince’s favourite dish. A spokesman for the Royal pair said today, "He will spend some of his birthday at Highgrove, where he has been based this week, then whatever he does at the weekend will be low-key and private."

It’s a far cry from how William celebrated his 21st birthday – an Out of Africa themed party for 300 guests, including Kate, at Windsor Castle. But Prince William’s all grown up. Gone are the days of downing Stella Artois and Sambuca shots (his booze of choice) and dancing to I Like The Way You Move (his and Kate’s favourite song). Since Kate and William moved into a modest cottage in Anglesey, they’ve turned into young fogies – staying in and watching boxsets like The Killing (The Duchess of Cornwall’s recommendation) or popping out to the cinema.

Today is also significant for William because he inherits an estimated £10million from his mother Diana’s estate, which must make buying her Prince a birthday present a tough task for Kate. For Christmas, he bought her their puppy Lupo and some £1900 Kiki McDonough earrings and she bought him some Tiffany cufflinks, a cashmere jumper and a beanie hat – because he’s apparently insecure about losing his hair. All together, ahh!
