Think of the Queen Elizabeth II's style and you think ice cream pastel two-pieces, one signature structured handbag and a dainty string of pearls, right? But it seems there's one lady who'd like to see HRH in something a little more cutting edge...
Step forward Donatella Versace, who was at the Oxford Student Union this week (yep, it took a while to get our heads round that too). It was there that the legendary designer confessed she'd like to mix up her regal dress code and kit our Queenie out 'in black with a little leather, a little rock ’n’ roll.' Besides, Donatella says, 'she can handle anything.' Ooh yes, we'd love to see HRH channelling a little Versace glamour and here's a taster of how Liz may celebrate her big bash this weekend - if DV had her way, that is.
Saucy! Obviously she'd have to update the headgear to match - perhaps with a cherry fascinator a la Anna Dello Russo? Donatella's brilliant style suggestion came during a conversation with journalist Tim Blanks earlier this week and as well as a swarm of Oxford Uni students hanging on her every word, the designer's fashwan pals Erdem Moralioglu, Christopher Kane and Rupert Everett were also in the crowd. Surely Oxford has never seen such a fash-pack invasion!
And boy, did she keep the folks entertained. Donatella went on to reveal a brilliant ancedote about the time fellow jewelry fanatic Elizabeth Taylor nabbed her ring. What cheek! Appaz, Lady Taylor asked if she could try on the gem but never gave it ring back. Instead, she sent Donatella a letter to say, 'Hey darling, the ring is so beautiful. Thank you so much!' Well, you can't fault her manners.
