01/06/2012 UPDATE: It was only yesterday that we saw the stunning sketches of Madonna's tour outfits (hello fab gallery above) and just a day later, we can watch them in action! The songstress took to the stage in Tel Aviv, Israel, last night and here's the first shots of her working Jean Paul Gaultier's custom-made creation, an updated version of THAT iconic conical bra. WOW-EE.
Doesn't she look foxy? The epic two hour show was filled with an array of dramatic outfits and celebrity blogger Perez Hilton described it as 'an exploration into a duality romance.' Err, amazing, we think. 'The MDNA show is dark,' he continued. 'Very dark. And those rays of light she sprinkles throughout the show come as some much needed relief.' MUST. GET. TICKETS.
Considering this is Madge's NINTH world tour and her first since 2009, it's proof there really is no stopping the Queen of Pop. Watch her working that majorette uniform in the video below and for more details on those outfits (as well as which designer proposed to her), keep on scrolling...
31/05/2012: What's Madonna Wearing For Her Tour?
As if the prospect of seeing Madonna take a swipe at Lady Gaga during her MDNA concert tour wasn't enough to get us clicking for front row tickets, a sneak peek at her oh-so-fab stage wardrobe has just landed and, well, WOW.
Naturallement, the legendary songstress has called on her designer pals to rustle up an array of incredible stage outfits and although we already knew Jean Paul Gaultier was involved, WWD reports that Jeremy Scott and Alexander Wang have also been enlisted. What a lucky lady!
Take a look at the gallery above to see the show-stopping creations for no less than EIGHT costume changes – we’re talking everything from a Joan of Arc-esque number made of metal mesh to a foxtastic black catsuit and a teeny majorette uniform that’s rather naughty (especially as her kids Lourdes and Rocco will be joining her on stage). Hervé Léger by Max Azria has also provided both a bandage dress and custom harness for the star, as well as dresses for her backup dancers.
But most excitingly, for Madonna's rendition of ‘Vogue,’ the best ever pop icon-slash-fashion legend collaboration will be reprised for our viewing pleasure. Oh yes, the Material Girl will be wearing a JPG design that consists of a white shirt, black tie, long black gloves and a curve-hugging corset, which references the pink bustier that became THE defining moment of her sartorial career.
‘We played with the ideas of a suit and a corset. But the corset is now like a cage,’ the designer revealed. ‘What I have done this time is a nod to the conical bra corset of the Blond Ambition tour but reinterpreted in 3-D, in patent leather on the outside with metallic leather on the inside. It’s all about masculine and feminine, Madonna and Jean Paul Gaultier classics reinterpreted for 2012.’ Sounds ah-maze-ing, right?
And the love-in between the pair is clearly still going strong over twenty years later. ‘I love Madonna,’ says Gaultier. ‘She is the only woman I have asked to marry me. She refused, of course. But when she asked me to do a costume for her for this tour, I couldn’t refuse.’
As for her tour footwear, Madge will be tapping away on stage in Prada and Miu Miu shoes - but will they be mega heels we wonder? You'll remember the star confessed that dancing for her incredible Superbowl performance (for which she wore Miu Mius) was 'really hard to do in heels.' Eek. But would her Madgesty really 'drop it like it’s hot' in comfy flats? We think not.
Meanwhile, her long-time buddies Dolce & Gabbana have whipped up sharp suits for the band and Fausto Puglisi has created menacing bandolier vests and rams head masks for the backup dancers PLUS J Brand has provided custom-made jeans. Phewf, it's going to be a vertible fashion fest!
