Stella McCartney Opens First Adidas Store! We Road Test The Most Fashionable Sports Kit Ever

31 May 2012 by

When the very delightful people at Adidas by Stella McCartney let us in on the news that the genius designer was opening the first stand-alone shop in for her much-celebrated sportswear brand, we literally jumped at the chance to go down to Fulham Road in posh West London and get rifling through those racks! Not only has she designed the team GB Olympic kit this year – a replica of which is available to try on at this very store – but she has wondrous ranges for all sorts of sports.

Yoga, running, fitness, cycling, swimming, golf are all catered for and there are quite a few items in the ranges that you would be happy to have in your wardrobe even if the most strenuous exercise you ever commit to is lugging a few TOPSHOP bags over the threshold after a hard day at the shops. That’s right – Stella McCartney’s designs for Adidas as so lush you’d want them whether or not you’re going to work out in them! AND – if you are going to run a few miles – they are built with serious performance in mind, using combinations of traditional and hi-tech fabrics and AMAZING colours and design features galore.

Stella has been working with the sports mega brand for eight years now and this latest shop was a labour of love as much of any of the projects in the 'World of Stella' – apparently the lady herself ordered all the furniture to be made in Italy by Buzzoni Shop Interiors and was spotted personally re-arranging the orchids on the day of the shop-fit to better display their blooms! In her own words, she said the thinking behind the new store was;

 ‘Just a marriage of things! I was looking very much at textures and the world of sport and I was trying to break down the language which is normally used is sport stores and trying to soften it and make it more feminine, and make it more approachable, but at the same time have that kind of language, bright colours, and the use of very linear, bold architecture lines, and of course keeping the same Stella language that we used in the store next door, and continue it through. We are trying to really present the collection, and house it in the correct way that you can just marry the sport and the fashion.’

And now for the outfits!

Team GB Replica Kit

Although I felt slightly insecure trying this on, merchandised, as it was, next to a huge graphic of Jessica Ennis and her magnificent abs, it felt very comfy and all extremely lightweight. What better way to show your patriotic support for team GB than wearing this for a jog around your local park, eh?

Neon ADIZERO trainers £110, team GB replica running ¾ tights £36, team GB replica running T-Shirt £32, team GB replica training wear jacket £70.

This might be my favourite outfit EVER! Not limited to favourite sportswear. I want every piece – I’d probably wear this on a normal day to work or on a night out, because it is so uplifting and brilliant!

Orange run performance shorts £50, pink run performance gilet £90, blue essentials hoody £100 yellow run ¾ tights £60, trainers as above.

Anyone for tennis?

As you can see, this is basically a gorgeous Stella McCartney mainline evening dress with a lightly shorter, frillier hem – at a fraction of the price we might add! Very comfy and stretchy and apparently, due to be worn by Caroline Wozniacki at Wimbledon this summer.

Organic cotton visor  £21, tennis performance dress £100, tennis performance hot pants £35, white perforated bra £40, white adizero trainers £110
