Florals are to summer what jumpers are to winter. The obvious choice perhaps, but too comforting to ignore. Florals have been rehashed for years but this season they're braver, more grown up and even a bit sophisticated. Forget ditsy florals on a sun dress in a field, this season it's all about matching two piece suits and a healthy dose of digital prints, subtle barely-there flowers or vibrant acidic jolts of colour; florals have been made over and it's one trend you should get under. Full on florals are very Mary Katrantzou don't ya know? And since I interviewed her last year I'm a teeny bit obsessed with everything and anything that resembles Mary K. This is excessive, over the top and the least 'pretty' way to do florals. It's fashion forward and will definitely get you noticed. Ground a printed suit with a cream knit or crisp white tee or go nuts with a clashing print in similar tones.

Nothing says summer like a pair of skinny jeans. Oh wait. Ok, they're a bit sticky and squeaky and not particularly comfortable in warm weather… you might even consider demoting them to the back of your wardrobe until Autumn rolls around again but before you make such a rash decision take a look at these. They're like summer in a fabric. Pale but lush, statement but understated, everything and nothing all at once! Let me explain that; you could let these bad boys take centre stage and team with neutral-ish basics like I've done or allow them to melt into the background by adding wild, bold colours. Don't try too hard to figure it out, they just work…

DO:
Mix it up. Clash prints and colours for a modern take on the floral trend.
Think BIG! Tropical, sunflowers and giant hydrangeas are good options.
Get your suit on…. for fashion forward florals.
Try vintage if you want a unique, one-off print that going to make people sick with jealousy.
DON'T:
Go for ditsy floral prints; this season is bigger and bolder.
Be afraid to mix your summer florals with heavier pieces like wool or tweed for a perfect transitional look.
Wear a 'bohemian', Pocahontas-style plaited headband (EVER). You're wearing a floral print, you're not five…
