Press Banned From Hedi Slimane's YSL Debut!

23 May 2012 by

More news on the Hedi Slimane for YSL front. Earlier this year Slimane was announced as the new head designer for the Parisian super brand – but reports have emerged that we are going to have to wait longer than expected to see what the tailoring maestro will be conjuring up. Slimane’s first collection for YSL for Cruise 2012 will be shown exclusively to buyers during buying appointments, leaving us hanging until October when he will stage his first full-on catwalk show at Paris Fashion Week.

Since Hedi took over from Stefano Pilati, his fan base – which includes A-list celebrities like Nicole Kidman, Madonna and Cate Blanchett – have been clamouring to see how he approached his first gig as a womenswear designer. Prior to his appointment, Slimane career had been based squarely in the menswear arena – although that didn’t stop women snapping up XS sized mens tuxedos and slim cut trousers in a bid to work some of the Hedi magic. What’s more the Hedi hype has been even more intense as he will be coming up against his former menswear rival, Raf Simmons who has recently been hired to head up another Parisian mega brand at Dior.

And no wonder everyone is so excited – Hedi brought us the skinny jean/ skinny blazer look which has been the fashion editor staple uniform for the past decade – so who knows how he’s going to rock up our wardrobes come October. Unfortunately both press and the public will be denied a hint of what’s to come at Cruise but lucky high end boutique buyers will be let into the new YSL universe in sometime in June or July. Jealous much?!
