We love a great designer/muse combination, so we have been watching with excitement at the new relationship developing between the red carpet’s most rebellious starlet, Kristen Stewart and Balenciaga designer Nicholas Ghesquière. Earlier this year K-Stew landed a fragrance contract with the French brand and since she has been working edgy Balenciaga designs on the red carpet and on the front row.

So we were understandably warmed to see the 'Twilight' star channeling her own low-key style sensibility today in Cannes with a pair of super cool lemon-coloured printed pants by - you’ve guessed it - Balenciaga. Working her trophy trousers with a perfect white tank and black blazer, courts and Persol sunnies for the 'On The Road' photocall, she seems more relaxed in this outfit than we’ve seen in a long time. Meanwhile, posing alongside Kristen was co-star Kirsten Dunst who looked decidedly more girlie in a pearlescent Dolce & Gabbana frock and Charlotte Olympia heels with her blonde locks prettified by an embellished floral headband.
Having already worn Balenciaga at this month’s Met Ball – a post-modern two piece teamed with beachy hair – and taken her place on the front row of Balenciaga’s Autumn Winter 2012 catwalk show in March, we love it that K-Stew is starting to carve out her very own red carpet look with her own designer little black book.
So why does the brand work for her? Earlier this year she told reporters, 'Balenciaga has always stood out to me. Even when I first began to consider fashion and admittedly rarely knew the brand I was wearing, I always recognized and loved Balenciaga. The brand is just cool. That’s the way it is. I feel drawn to it. It provokes on a number of levels. It isn’t afraid or contrived. It hits a very cool balance, always.' Amen to that!
Here’s hoping the K-Stew-Balenciaga love-in lasts because we for one can’t wait to see more of their fearless red carpet collaborations rocking our screens.
