‘1984. It’s always the same dream. Manhattan is mine…’ says a young Carrie Bradshaw, in the form of 18-year-old actress AnnaSophia Robb – who beat the likes of Elizabeth Olsen and Blake Lively to the Sex And The City prequel role - in the FIRST ever trailer for the upcoming TV series The Carrie Diaries. The 80s hair scrunchies, the Madonna references, the polka-dot and signature Carrie-curls, we couldn’t be more excited to see more of Gossip Girl’s costume designer, Eric Daman’s wardrobe for Carrie, circa 1980s...
So, waaaaaay before Mr. Big, there was Mr, er, Kydd, played by Vanessa Hudgens’ new beau Austin Butler, who is sure to be Carrie’s first love. We see our SATC heroine manoeuvre her way through high school, boys and getting on the ladder in the big Apple city that is Manhattan, with a completely different set of best friends. Gasp.
Eric Daman told Grazia Daily earlier in the year that 'because the Eighties were really decadent and as for as clothing goes, you want to make it very modern—we wanted to inject freshness.' And we’re happy to report that Carrie’s wardrobe is one that SJP herself would be proud of, plus, the hair!? It’s perfect.
Eric described AnnaSophia as ‘a free spirit, a quirky little girl’ to Grazia Daily but he did admit that she has ‘very big Manolo to fill!' We can’t wait to see how budding actress, AnnaSophia, takes Carrie and makes her a role model for a whole other generation to come. Not to say that we won’t be watching either. Bring on The Carrie Diaries.
