Celebrate The Royal Jubilee By Copying The Queen's Style at John Lewis!

Who wouldn't want to emulate the Queen's charming style?

Being huge fans of HRH Queen Elizabeth II, as well as not adverse to quite a lot of dressing up, when John Lewis offered Grazia Daily the chance to have a very regal makeover, we jumped at the chance!

Seeing as my usual dress code falls somewhere between a children’s TV presenter on their way to an ‘80s fancy dress party and an angry goth [see the before shot above], I actually quite fancied the thought of ice cream pastels, floaty chiffon and demure knee-length hems!

The department store came up with the idea after perusing the Spring Summer 2012 collections of those like Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Valentino which all seemed to have something in common with the Queen’s iconic ladylike style. Plus the fact, of course, that the lead up to the Jubilee is the perfect time to celebrate the Queen’s chic fashion sense. 

The first thing any self-respecting monarch needs is a good servant! The term ‘lady in waiting’ sounds a little bit less insulting and I was lucky enough to have Kay Ross, a highly qualified John Lewis personal stylist at my service.

Outfit 1: Yellow Pleat Dress

Verdict – I absolutely LOVE this, and felt very grown up but not frumpy. It was flattering as well, and just the sort of Queenly gown I had in mind. The shoes might be a bit high for HRH, but just right for me on my way to a summer party!

Outfit 2: Apricot Dress

Verdict -  Mmm, apricot! The Queen often wears one colour all over, which according to Kay ‘is very flattering and makes you look taller and slimmer top to toe’. Genius! And it’s clearly true.

Outfit 3: Bouclé Jacket

Gerard Darel Bouclé Jacket £255, Warehouse Dress £60, Navy Small Top Handle Bag £35, Ecclectica Brooch £35, LK Bennett Beige Olive Heels £175 - all at John Lewis.

Verdict: Now this might be the most sensible of all the outfits, but I have to say the jacket would look wicked with some skinny jeans or denim shorts and as for the brooch. It's sparkly twinkly costume jewellery heaven! And the powerful patent leather handbag is the piece de resistance.

Done!

Et voila, the makeover is complete! Now where are those corgis...?
