Three cheers to Alice Temperley! When a huge bottle of cider clonked onto the Grazia Daily desk yesterday afternoon, direct from Alice's family farm in Somerset, we couldn't resist raising a glass in celebration of the British designer's foray into the high street. That's right, Temperley creations will be coming to a John Lewis near you after Kate Middleton’s favourite West London designer has created an affordable range for the mega store. Fash fans, rejoice!
Somerset by Alice Temperley (the clothing, not the cider) is a 60-piece range that will feature the brand's familiar signatures, from Victoriana accents and lace embellishment to military hardware. "I wanted it to be very much a collection of essentials and to design a collection that would provide a feminine and functional wardrobe for women in their everyday life," said Alice. "We have spent the last ten years building our lines and Somerset will compliment our existing collections; it is a very accessible product that will take our aesthetic to a wider audience."
Indeed, you no longer have to be a world-famous Duchess, an A-list red carpet walker or Beyonce's baby to sample Temperley's wares. With prices starting at £29 for a scarf and £99 for a day dress to £1,000 for a thick sheepskin coat, the collection is accessible yet still luxurious. Yippee! The Guardian's Jess Cartner-Morley has already had a sneak peek and tantalises us with reports of Victoriana blouses and black leather trousers, high collars and polished buttons, and floorlength gowns and print dresses inset with panels of black lace.
Kate Middleton in Temperley creations
Of course, this doesn't mean we wouldn't LOVE to see Kate Middleton sampling the purse-friendly pieces. Not only is she thrifty, but the DoC is a dedicated fan of the Brit brand having worn several of Alice's pieces for public appearances — from a pleated white frock at Wimbledon, an embroidered shirt with a cowboy hat for Calgary and a monochrome number for her first official appearance. And let's not forget that even the Netherlands waxwork of Kate showcases one of her most famous Temperley frocks — the black lace creation she wore to the War Horse premiere on the eve of her 30th birthday.
The range will launch on September 4 in selected stores with a second drop mainly dedicated to partywear launching in October, so we'll you in the queue, K-Midd! Until then, have a scroll through the gallery above for a taster of the British bohemia that's set to come...
