Grazia Daily can't quite pin-point the moment when we first became besotted with Michelle Obama's style. Perhaps it started when she wore that white chiffon one-shouldered gown by Jason Wu to the inaugural ball back in 2009? We cheered with delight when she controversially chose to wear an Alexander McQueen gown to meet the Chinese President in 2011 then shed a patriotic cheer as she continued to wave the British flag with a splash of Roksanda Ilincic and Erdem. And let's not forget Mrs O's ASOS endorsement and her championing of those kooky Olsen twins with an ensemble from The Row. Yep, MObama never fails to get our fashion hearts a-racing.
So you can imagine our delight at discovering Michelle's sartorial swishes have long been spot-on. This retro snap, revealed on Ellen DeGeneres's show, sees the US First Lady pre-Obama - before the custom-made gowns, the designer pals and the power to sell-out any garment she chooses - posing alongside a be-suited and mustached date while sitting in a err, wicker chair (is that what Americans do on their prom night?!).
Doesn't she look fab in that Seventies-tastic metallic gold gown with oh-so-chic matching jacket and kitten heels? Seriously, has this woman aged AT ALL?! And would you check out at that cheeky leg flash? Very saucy, MObama!
'That split was a little high,' Michelle tells Ellen. 'I don't know if I'd let my kids go out in a split that high, so let’s not show this to Malia and Sasha.' Angelina Jolie, meanwhile, would be massively impressed.
