Brace yourself for the Slogan Suit as worn by Jennifer Lopez, Chloe Sims and Ashley Tisdale

The tracksuit has had a chequered history. From Juicy Couture’s velour to Abercrombie’s butt logos, not even a high fashion makeover – last year’s luxe track pants – could offer an unequivocal new reputation. And little wonder - the hangover day favourite and close relation of the slanket is hardly the epitome of sartorial sophistication. But however much fashion insiders may disparage the humble sweatsuit, it continues somehow to find loyal fans.

One such lifelong devotee, Jennifer Lopez has a well-documented joy for joggers. So when we spotted her working a white two piece emblazoned with the word ‘Peace’ we knew she would be ahead of the track pack. After a bit of detective work we found out that her suit is by Peace Love World a U.S ‘loungewear’ brand that is hitting Hollywood by storm. Designed by Cuban Alina Villasante, the Miami based label was launched in 2010. With graphic feel-good messages on sleeves and down the leg, available in a host of bright colourways, the suits and tees are instantly recognisable.  Tellingly JLo is not PLW’s only celeb fan – Jennifer Garner and Halle Berry have also been snapped in the label.

What’s more the look is already spawning similar styles elsewhere – most notably at Victoria’s Secret PINK, the youth-led arm of the US lingerie Leviathan. The brand’s LOVE PINK slogan suit was worn by TOWIE’s Chloe Sims this week (JLo has – of course- already been pictured in a PINK suit) and is sure to appeal to the girlish tastes of Essex’s finest. On the same day but this time back over the other side of the pond, Disney actress Ashley Tisdale sported a graphic FREECITY slogan track pants – highlighting yet another US based loungewear label gaining celebrity fans.

Of course if you like us think tracksuits are for gyms and sick days you can promptly wipe this information from your overloaded brain. But if you too have the misfortune to inhabit the parallel world in which sweatsuits somehow seem like appropriate daywear, then make like the stars and tap up a slogan.
