We can’t really imagine Prada ever having a bad year, but this past one - in financial terms - has been their best ever! According to reports released today, this has been the most profitable year for the Italian trend-setting and A-list favourite label. If you’d like figures, here they are: net profit increased 72.2 percent to $600.3 million, and revenue went up 24.9 percent to $3.54 billion. And they’re adding another 160 stores to the portfolio. Not bad, huh?
So, we thought the best way and most thorough way for us to analyse the stats – Grazia stylee - is to pin down the many reasons why Prada has been so particularly awesome over the past few months….
That S/S'12 Onesie:
Who knew a little ‘50s inspired onesie bodysuit could be so very popular. It’s become a fashion stylist’s top choice and has therefore popped up everywhere from Grazia’s main fashion pages to Victoria Beckham’s Harpers Bazaar AND Le Figaro shoot, as well as international versions of Elle, Vogue and Glamour across the globe – with many taking the starring role on the cover. Pictured above is Vogue China, FYI.
They're always innovating...
From their Fantasy look-book for S/S’11 (pictured above) to last winter’s hi-tec and live-streamed show in Tokyo, Miuccia’s finger is always on the forward-thinking pulse. Prada recently collaborated with Milan-based artist Francesco Vezzoli to create a 24 hour museum of trailblazing artwork, film and theatre in Paris for February’s fashion week – it was attended by the likes of Kate Moss, Diane Kruger and Anna Wintour.
Endless must-have accessories:
From last summer’s stripe stolesfavoured by fashion eds like Shala Monroque and popstrels such as Rihanna, to this season’s scorchin' flame sandals (that have been hot on the heels of Katy Pery and Anna Dello Russo - who was snapped during MFW by Qin At The Disco above) and the selling-out-everywhere rose and crystal earrings, Prada certainly know how to firmly stamp an instant must-have label or two... Or twenty.
The Awesome Ads:
We don’t think any other S/S’12 ads can compete for looking quite as cheerful, glamorous and capable of bringing on that aching ‘I want to be there’ feeling like Pradas. The combination of major blue skies, a sassy and exciting americana scene and models like Natasha Poly, Jessica Stam and Ymre Stiekema making the most of those fabulous Prada clothes has, and will continue to lure us into stores on a regular basis.
A-list Prada ladies:
From January Jones’ dedicated toting of the latest new Prada ladylike tote, to Leighton Meester and Diane Kruger picking up on the Prada pastels pretty early, there’s never a shortage of glamorous ladies ready to rock the brand on the red carpet and beyond. But it was Zooey Deschanel and her custom-made Prada gown for the Golden Globes that really made us swoon.
And finally... Michael Pitt:
Anyone who gets actor Michael Pitt to model in a campaign and get such moody guitar-strumming behind-the-scenes video footage gets our vote.
See? With all that AND the amazoid clothes season-upon-season, it's really no wonder the Prada power house is thriving!
