Cartoon Supermodel Polly Bean Models McQ and Victoria Beckham For Harvey Nichols!

29 March 2012 by

Harvey Nichols recently announced an upcoming collaboration with the comic strip supermodel Polly Bean. Polly who, we hear you say? Well FYI for less than avid readers of British satirical bible Private Eye, Polly is a cartoon supermodel, created by the award winning cartoonist Neil Kerber, who for the past 20 years have been working the catwalks with Kate et al. Having gone through her own dark days, Polly has finally scored a bona fide campaign (she is signed to Premier Models, dontcha know) and will be starring in Harvey Nichols’ Autumn Winter 2012 lookbook, modelling key pieces from all the new season’s best collections. Grazia Daily caught up with the wafer-thin fashion icon to get her take on the fabulous world of fashion...

Grazia Daily - What is your favourite pick from the S/S 2012 shows – and what was your favourite catwalk moment?

Polly: I think it would have to be the Meadham Kirchhoff cardigan in primrose with the pink heart’s practically freelove in a sweater and just think of all the happiness it would bring to others - I always have to justify each purchase that I make despite my status. As for my favourite catwalk moment it’s a tie between the 'Swan Lake' finale at Giles (I was wearing the Stephen Jones swan headdress in case you didn’t recognise me) or the school-girl ballerinas kicking their heels up to the CanCan at Meadham Kirchhoff.

Grazia Daily - Who is you best friend in fashion? And your favourite frenemy?

Polly: Mary K…or Mary Katranzou as you might know her….we have such a close and special friendship tweeting the night away….My favourite frenemy? The lovely Karmen Pedaru. People say we look alike, practically sisters…so of course there’s always a tad of sibling rivalry there. It’s only healthy...a bit of competition! Love you, Karmen!

Grazia Daily - How has fashion changed over your illustrious career – is the supermodel heyday over?

Obviously fashion has changed incredibly since my arrival on the scene. I have made the entire industry more exciting, and taken fashion to heights never reached previously. Designers all want to design for me, and fashion editors clamour for front row seats whenever I am catwalking. To answer the second part of your question, I feel that the supermodel heyday was nearly over, but my emergence has hailed the beginning of a whole new era of supermodeldom. I’m sure the entire fashion world will agree that I am to thank for everything that’s happening today.

Grazia Daily - What are you three best styling tips for the Grazia readers?

Avoid catwalk trends at all costs unless you are shaped like a stick insect, never wear ankle straps if you lack the gazelle like poise of yours truly…and finally best to wear black - all black - it’s flattering and always in fashion!

Grazia Daily - Carine Roitfeld or Emmanuelle Alt?

Carine…Emanuelle…Carine…Emmanuelle...ok, Emanuelle! Anyone who can get me to boogie to Wham! while shooting French Vogue gets my vote any day!
