There was only one place to be last night: curled up on your sofa in your fancy frock with a glass of gin in hand watching the new series of Mad Men! And after the first episode, we can confirm it's ALL about the swinging Sixties - we're still reeling from all those psychedelic prints and monochrome mini-dresses.
The fifth season (which we waited a year and a half for, thank you very much Mad Men producers) fast-forwards the Drapers and the Sterlings of Madison Avenue to 1966. Mad Men’s original ladies totally looked the part with Peggy Olson donning a monochrome dress and a pale green check ensemble, accessorised with a cream bowler-esque hat while yummy mummy Joan Harris was clad in a pink and black tie-dye shift.
BUT everybody’s talking about Mad Men’s newer ladies, especially Megan Draper who is SO the new Betty, made easier by the fact January Jones was noticeably MIA. Yep, We’re obsessed with the new Mrs. Draper - did you see her in that black chiffon number she wore when serenading Don with 'Zou Bisou Bisou' for his 40th birthday party? And how about Trudy Campbell’s pastel floral roll-neck shift - totally groovy, no? Jane Sterling was another new lady channeling Mary Quant in her bright orange mini-dress and liquid-liner. We just can’t get enough of those brilliant bouffants, printed shift dresses and bright, bold accessories.
But it wasn’t just the clothes we were lusting over though. Did you see the mod interiors? It was all about minimalist white furniture, op art and pops of oranges and reds. Bring on episode three...
Mad Men is on Sky Atlantic HD on Tuesdays at 9pm.
