Grazia Daily's jaw hit the floor when Kate Winslet rocked up to the red carpet for the premiere of Titanic 3D last night. Didn't she look utterly divine in that floor-sweeping black gown embellished with twinkling crystals? The verdict at Grazia HQ was a mahoosive yes.
As we reported yesterday, the frock was custom-made for the Hollywood actress by our very own Jenny Packham, taking a whopping five days to make. 'I design to create excitement and glamour,' the designer tells Grazia Daily. 'I never think of the time and effort - I love it!'
The Brit frock-maker presented Ms Winslet with her Autumn Winter 2012 collection when both ladies were in London and although this exact dress didn't hit the catwalk when the show took place during New York Fashion Week last month, it is inspired by the same Film Noir, femme fatale vibe. 'I believe very much that the dress should make the woman feel confident and attractive,' Packham explained. 'Kate, for example, wears very classic glamorous styles with well-defined silhouettes.'

And Kate isn't the only fan of Jenny's regal creations. In fact, another famous Kate (of the Middleton variety, no less) has turned to the designer for those tricky all-eyes-are-watching moments. Remember when the Duchess of Cambridge hosted a charity dinner at St James’s Palace in November, par exemple, wearing a silver one-shoulder silk-chiffon gown accented by a velvet ribbon? She wore two flippy JP frocks — one floral, one yellow — for her US and Canadia tour too. But most memorably, Kate went glitzy for last summer's ARK Gala Dinner by wearing the designer's pearlescent rose gown embellished with Swarovski crystals, causing admiring sighs across the land.
As if that wasn't exciting enough, Ms Packham can also count Angelina Jolie among her style-setter fans. Let's not forget the A-list actress' sultry appearance at the SAG Awards when she chose a black liquid metallic gown with a draped front from the Autumn Winter 2011 collection. Kate Winslet also championed JP during awards season by wearing a black silk keyhole bodice with an ivory silk crepe skirt for the Golden Globe Awards.
So what's it like to see your own creations gracing the globe's hottest red carpets? 'I am such a fan of both Angelina and Kate [Winslet] so obviously I am thrilled they wore my designs,' she reveals. And although Packham always hopes the actresses will bring her creations to the awards season rounds, 'you never know until they step out!'
She names Michelle Williams, Carey Mulligan and Jessica Chastain as other starlets she'd love to see wearing her figure-skimming frocks — and at the rate she's going, we're sure it's only a matter of time.
But it's not just the mega stars who are treated to the JP action — now us mere mortals can get our mitts on her princessy creations too. Yes, Jenny Packham's high street collection for Debenhams is launching next month with prom dresses, glam gowns, shoes, headwear and jewellery that starts at just £18. Start compiling your wishlists now, folks.
