Think Guess and you think of a blonde bombshell oozing oodles of sex appeal with a pouty pout and leggy legs encased in a pair of skin-tight denim jeans, right? So how better to celebrate 30 years of the American brand than returning to the ultimate blonde bombshell, Claudia Schiffer.
As Women's Wear Daily reports, C-Schiff is a Guess Girl again after first appearing in their ad campaign over twenty years ago. And guess what? She's still super hot. In just-released images, the supermodel showcases a 15-piece capsule collection to mark Guess’ three decades in the business. The range is inspired by all the genetically-blessed Guess Girls and features bedazzled T-shirts covered in Anna Nicole Smith’s face, a sheer leopard-print blouse, jeans with a cut-off waistband and a black-and-white gingham top worn originally worn by Eva Herzigova. Yup, it's a true return to the brand's Eighties roots - and brilliantly, the three-zipper Marilyn jeans that first launched the brand are up for grabs too!
It was back in 1981 when Guess, which now offers watches, jewelry, perfumes and kidswear as well as top-notch denim, was founded by four Jewish Moroccan brothers. Those black-and-white ads quickly became iconic and in 1989, Ellen von Unwerth shot a 19-year-old Schiffer wearing nothing but a lace bustier, gold hoop earrings and a blonde bouffant. Eva Herzigova, Anna Nicole Smith, Drew Barrymore and even Paris Hilton followed suit (check them out in the gallery above) and most recently, Hollywood hottie Amber Heard has been working her modelling chops for the brand - that classic all-American girl vibe making her the perfect fit for the brand.
‘[Claudia] was a turning point of Guess, she was a turning point of Ellen’s career, Guess was a turning point of a life for Claudia,’ Paul Marciano, chief executive officer and creative director of Guess, tells WWD. ‘Everybody talked about the Guess Girl.’
In fact, Schiffer featured in a whooping six Guess campaigns between 1989 and 1991 so it’s unsurprising that she has ‘a soft spot’ for the brand. ‘I’m excited that 23 years later we can still work together so successfully,’ she says. ‘Shooting the Guess 30th anniversary campaign was like going back in time.’
The new campaign [above] sees 41-year-old Claudia looking better than ever, perched on a scooter in Italy while wearing – you guessed it – a lace bustier with skintight jeans and a matching denim jacket. And in another shot, she showcases a pair of daisy-print jeans while sitting atop a gilded desk with her blonde bouffant in all its Brigitte Bardot-esque glory. And to really recapture that nostalgic vibe, Ellen von Unwerth is behind the lens once again.
