This moment has been a long time coming and at last little Carrie Bradshaw is here!

Last month, AnnaSophia Robb was announced as the lucky lady who'd beat Blake Lively and Elizabeth Olsen to bag the role of the young Carrie in the CW’s new Sex and the City prequel, The Carrie Diaries. Then we spotted the 18-year-old on set in New York City with crimped hair ’80s style and we were excited (we chose to ignore the Uggs and hoodie). But now the first real official photo of the actress posing a-top a Manhattan rooftop as our beloved Carrie has arrived — and we like.
The sparkling, pouffy prom dress is Carrie-tastic, the clashing green leopard print and rainbow belt provide that signature quirk and, of course, Bradshaw wouldn't be Bradshaw without a killer pair of stilettos. Admittedly, after that flashback in the second movie when Sarah Jessica Parker's kitted out in a lilac corset over layers of white tulle, black lace and strings of pearls, plus with a ginormous pink bow in her permed barnet and chunky hooped earrings, we were expecting wacktacular '80s-ness from this reincarnation. But are we just being picky?

'It’s a rare invitation to dress a character whose reputation truly precedes her,' said costume designer Eric Daman. 'Having played a hand in designing for the Carrie we know and love, I am honored to be chosen to carry the torch — to illuminate the woman we know by discovering the young lady she was.' And considering this is also the man behind Gossip Girl's wardrobe, we're sure there's lots of fashion fabulousness to come.
What's more, AnnaSophia already has SJP's seal of approval. Yep, the original Carrie sent the new Carrie a letter. 'I wrote her one back, too,' the up-and-comer told Us Weekly. 'She was just very encouraging about it all. It was really cool!' Ah bless.

UPDATE! New images have just arrived from the New York set and we're happy to report the hair is looking more Carrie-esque. Hurrah! The clothes are still a tad too tame for our liking — where's the latex, the power shoulders and the fishnet gloves? — but that Carrie bag is FAB. Is it the new Carrie necklace?
So what's your verdict on Anna as Carrie circa 1985? Let us know in the box below...

Alice Dyson (Mon Mar 26 09:57:26 BST 2012): seems pretty tame in comparison to the later years but perhaps that's the point and we will see her style evolve as she grows up.
Skint in the City (Mon Mar 26 11:59:22 BST 2012): She looks a bit too prissy to me and is dressed a little too old for her years, but looks-wise, with the hair and the face, she's got it!
Lauren Fay Newby (Mon Mar 26 13:22:46 BST 2012): She looks too 'done' esp her hair, and the make-up doens't exactly scream eighties to me. I don't mind the slightly tame fashion, everyone's style is different when they're younger, but I don't think it looks vintage eighties enough, it's all too noughties-shiny!
Lala Meere (Mon Mar 26 13:24:34 BST 2012): unfortunately nobody can replace SJP...not impressed with overdone outfits either ;(.
Alexia Lawson (Mon Mar 26 17:04:29 BST 2012): Agreed!!!
Souzana Mayroforaki (Wed Mar 20 17:26:28 GMT 2013): of course the outfits are overdone,it takes place in the 80's
Esther Davida Rose (Mon Mar 26 13:38:51 BST 2012): Carrie without SJP dressed by Patricia Green just isn't Carrie in my eyes and never will be...end of!
