Reiss Expands In The US Thanks To The Kate Middleton Effect

23 March 2012 by

“The Duchess” effect is fast becoming a worldwide phenomenon as Kate Middleton, or should we say the Duchess of Cambridge, continues to dominate the press for her sartorial choices. Brit high street label Reiss has seen the Duchess wear several of their dresses - from the white 'Nanette' dress for her engagement photo to the 'Shola' dress she wore to meet the Obamas and that now infamous blue frock that she shares with her mum - causing the website to crash and telephone lines to be overwhelmed with the public’s interest.

In fact, the brand has had so much interest internationally that Reiss has launched concessions in Bloomingdale’s in SoHo and Roosevelt Field in New York, and will open four more spaces at Bloomingdale’s stores later this month. Wow. So by the end of the year, it will have a total of 13 shops-in-shop. Wow.

A spokesperson from Reiss told WWD, 'From a sales perspective, both [the Nanette and Shola] dresses sold out very quickly online, and in the U.S. the Shola dress sold out before stores even opened their doors. People were calling our customer services number, and buying over the phone'. Double wow.

With numerous State visits and public events planned to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee and in the lead up to the Olympics, we're expecting to see Kate in many more high street hotcakes in the coming months. Despite being known to re-wear some of her old wardrobe favourites, we’ve spied a few frocks that have just landed in store at Reiss that would be perfect for a princess.
