Being a nosey bunch here at Grazia HQ, we always relish the chance to get a sneaky peek into the lives of the glossy glitterati. Earlier this week, we were gobsmacked by what a day in the life of Karl Lagerfeld revealed - from coating his hair in dry shampoo to sleeping in a full-length white shirt (uh-huh). And now it's the turn of Gwyneth Paltrow.
The Hollywood actress has peeled back the curtain on her super-glam life to give us mere mortals a glimpse into a day in HER life. But this isn't any old day - oh no. This is Oscars Day. The day when Tinseltown's highest-paid starlets swarm onto the snazziest of red carpets to pose in the most covetable of confections to be judged across the land - so you can imagine the pressure.
'It’s always nerve-wracking to pick a dress for The Oscars,' Gwynnie reveals in her latest Goop newsletter. 'Getting the dress, the jewelry, the hair and the makeup requires a lot of work from stylists and designers who prepare months in advance for the event.' And yet, she totally nailed it thanks to a white caped Tom Ford gown, that won her the Best Dressed crown from Grazia's Fashion Jury. Vanity Fair's fashion director Elizabeth Saltzman is the lady who sourced the red-carpet-worthy look and in Gwyneth's behind-the-scenes post, Elizabeth reveals she met the suave US designer at his studio just one week before the event.
'This dress screamed OSCARS to me. It simply was ‘the one’,' the stylist says. 'The dress was composed of all the elements that I look out for for Gwyneth: supreme elegance, grace, royalty, extreme modern luxury, simplicity without lacking intense skill and risk. It had a positive edginess to it as well. Also, being such a fan of Jackie Kennedy through the years, I thought the dress channeled some of her iconic style, but this is my opinion.'
Aside from the gorgeous gown, Gwynnie gives us an insight into the other vital preparations she underwent for the big day. First up is an intensive cardio workout (at 10am, no less) to tone up those abs before they're encased in the slim-fitting sheath. Phewf!
Then it's onto the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills where Gwyneth gets her roots done before eating her 'traditional pre-show turkey burger and fries' by the pool with her kids (did you reeeally, GP?).
At 2pm, the real glamming-up begins! First hairstylist Adir Abergel creates a tousled bun, but later decides 'the dress requires even simpler hair' and so the straight ponytail is pulled into place. As for that pretty face, makeup artist Leslie Lopez is busy slicking on the black eyeliner. Oh, and guess who drops by for some moral pampering support? Only blinkin' Cameron Diaz!
Next, bring on the sparklers! Gwyneth was asked to represent Anna Hu on the red carpet so she opts for a diamond and purple sapphire ring with a rose-cut diamond cuff, but decides against the bling-tastic earrings. Wise move, lady.
And here's the finished look. What a triumph! Bravo one and all.
