We Review Nicollette Sheridan's Courtroom Chic For The 'Desperate Housewives' Trial

As the so-called ‘Desperate Housewives’ trial draws to a close, Grazia Daily has been struck by how the courtroom has become the new airport. Confused? Remember Victoria Beckham’s tweet letting us all know the airport was her runway? Well that was so 2010. Today’s new venue for a career relaunch/flaunting of your fashion sense is most definitely the house of the law, as Nicollette Sheridan – aka Edie in Desperate Housewives - so aptly demonstrated this week.

In a twist which reads like a Dezzers plotline, Ms Sheridan has been suing the show’s producer Marc Cherry for more than two years - and this week saw her case once more set for retrial as the warring parties remained in inconclusive deadlock. Having been out of work for two years and now without agency representation, Sheridan is desperately in need of a career adrenalin shot, and what better way to remind people of your hotness than embarking on a pre-trial fitness routine, pulling up at the front of the courthouse every day sporting professional but figure-hugging tailoring and rousing sympathy with tearful testimony?

And its not just Nicollette who has realised the power the courthouse catwalk. Remember Winona Ryder’s infamous trial in 2002? In the dock for shoplifting – $5,500 of designer garb from Saks – Ryder’s sartorial choices made front page news as she was clad head to toe in demure Marc Jacobs – the very brand she had been caught red handed trying to pilfer! Cast the year later to star in MJ’s fashion campaigns, Ryder’s courtroom style savvy eventually reaped career rewards.

Lindsay Lohan arriving at court last year

Another regular in the courts, Lindsay Lohan has used her courtroom appearances to stage her 'comeback', styling herself in modest and competent fashions in a bid to distance herself from her wild child rep. La Lohan is also well practiced in the art of courtroom style tricks – often wearing white in an effort to appear more innocent and angelic, a tactic that former BFF Paris Hilton also employed at her trial in 2010 for drug possession and lying to a police officer.

And the list goes on - who could forget Nicole Richie chic chignon and Moschino LBD for her 2007 DUI charge? Or Naomi’s killer knee length skirts sported at her multiple court appearances? Or Imogen Thomas’ W-O-W moment as she flashed a Victoria Beckham-style dress at the High Court Ryan Gigs gagging trial?

Courtroom chic is the best way to spin a bad story into a career opportunity – as they say there’s no such thing as bad publicity.
