After some truly kick-ass shows for the Autumn/Winter 2012 fashion season, the time has come to sit back, pore over our favourites, and create the mother of all lust lists for next season. Mo ha! First up, kids: bags.
Prada Autumn/Winter 2012, Miu Miu Autumn/Winter 2012
New Shape - The Doctor’s Bag
There was one distinct new shape that arrived on the runways this season – the doctor's bag. We love both, naturally; it might be as deliciously impractical as last season’s boxing mitt clutch, but that's not going to stop the ladies of Grazia HQ rocking them, and neither should it put you off.
Miuccia Prada was one of the main exponents of the doctor's bag, showing it both at Prada and Miu Miu. We loved the floral applique on her design on the Prada Autumn / Winter 2012 catwalk, as well as the chic simplicity of her design for Miu Miu Autumn / Winter 2012.
Alexander Wang Autumn/Winter 2012, Marni Autumn/Winter 2012
Alexander Wang also showed a doctor's bag for his Autumn/Winter 2012 show, this time in minimally cut but super lux white leather. And hot off the heels of her collaboration for H&M, Consuelo Castiglioni showed a bold scarlet textile design at the Marni Autumn/Winter 2012 catwalk, complete with highly polished, sharp edged gold frame.
Chanel Autumn/Winter 2012, Valentino Autumn/Winter 2012
The Clutch Collection
The boxing mitt clutch, meanwhile, appeared on the catwalks for Chanel, where Uncle Karl updated the design in gathered silver tone leather, and at Valentino, where Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli showed an altogether more ferocious version of the mitt; in sharp black leather, with a stud encrusted hand strap.
Mulberry Autumn/Winter 2012, Chanel Autumn/Winter 2012
From wool to velvet, there were an enormous variety of fabric finishes on show for Autumn/Winter 2012’s bags. Pattern look set to be another big story for bags as we move into next season – not just at Prada, but also at Mulberry where Lily was given a makeover, with a bold coloured woven striped finish. Love! At Chanel, meanwhile, Karl Lagerfeld updated that 90s classic – the mini rucksack – by crafted it in bold coloured boucle and (our favourite) purple velvet.
The Row Autumn/Winter 2012, Jason Wu Autumn/Winter 2012
After their $39k alligator rucksack last season, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have created another super minimal, refined collection at The Row, with bags that were every bit as luxurious as the clothing. Our favourite was this gorgeous snakeskin number with grab handle - price point yet to be revealed. Jason Wu, meanwhile, created one of our favourite designs of the season with this metallic tote-cum-clutch in gold snake with black piping. Love, love love.
