It's a very exciting day here at Grazia Towers and we've spent much of the afternoon glued to the BBC News. Why? Because have we mentioned one of our very own Graziettes is currently in the U.S. of A. With the Camerons AND the Obamas. At the White House. Uh-huh, we can barely believe it ourselves.
So far, we've had reports on Samantha Cameron wearing Roksanda Ilincic — TWICE! — and we've even seen the White House hoover in action. Yep, it's sheer glamour every step of the way. And the latest update from across the pond? LOTS of gift swapping. What fun!
First up, David Cameron presented Barack and his gorgeous family with 'a customised Dunlop table tennis table'. How thoughtful. According to our insider source, the gift was selected to commemorate President Obama’s state visit to the UK last May when the Barack and David teamed up to play pupils at table tennis at the Globe Academy school in south London. What's more, Dunlop is a truly British company and it makes a fitting gift as we approach the London 2012 Olympics, or something.
ANYWAY. Forget the boys, we want to hear about the ladies' gifts! And they are faaar more interesting. Yes, Sam Cam has given MObama a touch of British style in the form of a blue printed scarf by Jonathan Saunders. The silk scarf is part of the designer's Cruise 2012 collection and is inspired by elegant Victorian wallpapers. You can pick up your very own for £284.00 at Asos.com. It's SO her colour, no?
In return, Michelle gave our Sam a crystal vase with honey collected from the South Lawn of the White House, as well as chamomile seeds harvested in her garden and a custom candle. (We'd rather the scarf, thanks).
Oh, and don't fret about the children missing out on this game of pass the parcel. The adorable Obama daughters were given a set of classic British books in customised sleeves while the Cameron kids received personalised bean bag chairs, each featuring the Presidential Seal and the child’s name. Aw, bless.
And finally, the Obamas gave Dave and Sam a one-of-a-kind Braten 1000 Series Grill hand made by Engelbrecht Grills and Cookers of Paxton, Illinois, to symbolise their 'personal friendship' and to commemorate their May 2011 visit to 10 Downing Street when they served food to American and British Armed Service Members. They also threw in two White House chef jackets with the couple's names embroidered on the front. GENIUS.
Suddenly our bottle of red seems rather inadequate...
