Raf Simons at the Jil Sander show on Saturday
Since the sudden announcement that Raf Simons is leaving his position as Creative Director at Jil Sander, the industry has been abuzz with rumours. Writing for WWD, Bridget Foley reported that the Belgian born designer was 'unceremoniously dumped' from the brand and at the Versus show in Milan, he reportedly told his fellow FROWers: 'I am leaving Milan tomorrow, forever.'
But, of course, the biggest question is whether the designer is headed to Dior. According to Hint Mag, negotiations with the French brand were moving along swimmingly, aided by the fact that Simons felt his time at Jil Sander had reached its natural end. But speculation suggests Dior CEO Sidney Toledano halted negotiations when Simons asked for too high a salary, much like Marc Jacobs. Our sources have confirmed that this is an 'unfounded and ludicrous rumour'.
Bill Gaytten at the Dior Couture show in January
Either way, the question remains: what's the future for Dior? This morning's news suggests that Toledano has signed up Bill Gaytten for another six seasons. Although this hasn't been confirmed, we do know the British designer has been working behind the scenes at Dior for 17 years and sales at the fashion house were up by 14 per cent last year compared with 2010.
So with the Autumn Winter 2012 show due to show on Friday afternoon during Paris Fashion Week, can we expect an official announcement? Here's hoping.
