As Paris Fashion Week cranks into action today there is one designer showing who knows her clothes will end up on 50% of the editors who walk in the door of her showroom. And no it isn't Isabel Marant, though Isabel will probably end up dress the other 50%! Meet the super-chic Cecilia Bonstrom the former model who, when her career in front of the camera came to its natural end, became a designer at French label Zadig & Voltaire.
In her time there she has revolutionised the brand from a tacky Euro trashy style to become the go to place for cool women including Eva Longoria, model Erin Wasson and Vanessa Paradis who want their everyday wear jeans, T-shirts, shorts and skirts to make them look as cool as possible.
Making everyday clothes that turn the wearer into a laid back fashiony sex bomb, rather than a bore in a standard pair of jeans and a T-shirt his is not as easy as it sounds. If it was, everyone would be doing it. So what is Cecilia's secret?
"Once a model, always a model!" she says. "I spent so many years in front of the camera working with editors I understand what makes clothing work, and what makes it not work just as much. I cannot resist trying every single piece on and looking at how it fits. I'm obsessed with fabrics, cut, the number of centimetres i an arm hole, neck hole. All these things matter so much."
They so do. In fact her whole look today is the very definition of cool French chic. "There is definitely two sides to French style,"says Cecilia. "There is the very sophisticated woman you see on the catwalks, the kind of woman who wears Christian Dior and YSL, and then there is the French woman on the street who wears natural hair and basic make-up. You will see her in low heel pumps with a relaxed style that uses masculine pieces in a feminine way. Like me today, I guess."
So now you know!
